2025 Taunton Tornadoes Program

 

Taunton Girls Softball plans to field a competitive travel program in 2025 in the 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U & 18U Divisions, as well as the Typhoons College Showcase team! 

Tryouts for all divisions will be held at the TGSL Complex, located at 500 Norton Ave in Taunton MA on July 22nd, 23rd, 24th & 25th @ 6:00pm. All players MUST pre-register in order to attend!  Please fill out the travel team tryout registration form below.

 

Players must register according to their USA Softball age, which is considered their age as of September 1st, 2024. Please refer to the USA Softball Age Guidelines located at the bottom of this page. 

 

Please note: Players in the 14U/16U/18U divisions are eligible to tryout for both their respective division and the Typhoons Showcase Team. Players interested in doing so must select the option to do so on the registration form.

**Tornadoes Travel and the Typhoons Showcase programs are competitive softball programs and not all players who tryout will make a team.

 

Additional tryout dates will be offered July 30th & 31st for all divisions.  Further information to follow first round of tryouts. If you are unable to attend your age divisions assigned tryout date, please email the Travel Program Director at programdirector@tauntongirlssoftball.org to make further arrangements. 

Taunton Girls Softball has some exciting advantages to offer for our travel program. As part of this year’s program TGSL will offer a 4 to 6 week off-season skills instruction from several top college softball coaches, which includes 1 on 1 instruction over the course of the winter to improve player fundamentals.

 

There may potentially be teams added in each of our travel divisions. If you are interested in managing a 2025 Taunton Tornadoes Travel Team, please fill out the Managers Application, and the Travel Director will contact you to schedule an interview. 

 

 

 WHAT DOES TAUNTON GIRLS SOFTBALL OFFER?

  • All players receive two sets of  uniforms, a batting helmet and bat bag (helmets and bat bags are replaced every 2 years for returning players). 
  • Our league has 5 well maintained fields and year round access to our own indoor practice facility located in downtown Taunton. Our facility offers 3 pitching lanes, 5 tee stations, 2 hitting cages, & open practice space to work all year long on softball fundamentals.
  • Taunton Girls Softball League along with USA Softball of Massachusetts will once again host several College Showcases, at our complex. This will allow our players to interact with regional college coaches during these events.
  • Taunton Girls Softball has a strong partnership with USA Softball of Massachusetts to help develop, strengthen and build our town recreational softball programs in Massachusetts to keep softball available to all girls who want to play for the love the game!

 

 

There is no fee to tryout! Payments are due once a player has tried out AND has been selected to play on a 2025 Travel Team. Player fee for all 2025 Tornadoes Travel players is $500. If your player has been chosen to play on a team please click the Secure Payments By PayPal link below to make your travel team payments now.

PLAYER COMMITMENT Winter Indoor Training: Normally 1-2 practices per week*

Spring: Weekly practices*

Tournaments: 3 - 6+ per Summer (local travel - overnight possible but up to the manager)*
Participation in USA Softball States, Regionals & Nationals*
FUNDRAISING OBLIGATIONS
  • Home Tournament(s) including Showcase Events-
  • Parent(s)/guardian(s) of each player are expected to support all fundraising events for this program. Including but not limited to, working tournaments hosted by TGSL which support our travel/showcase program.
USA SOFTBALL TEAM CLASSIFICATION

Teams will meet 2025 USA Softball Requirements.

(Appropriate classification determined by team manager. )
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Players from Taunton, in the 10U Division must play on a TGSL Recreational League team** Players outside of Taunton, and in 12U Division, and above, are not required to play rec, but are encouraged to do so. Please see requirement exceptions below. 
  • Must not be on another USA Softball Championship Roster. 

 

 

* Varies by age, team and manager. Some teams may choose to do additional fundraising and play in more tournaments.

**TGSL Recreational Exceptions: High School Varsity players are not required to play on a TGSL recreational team. Playing on a TGSL recreational team is optional for those who play on a High School JV or Freshman team.
 

NOTE:  All descriptions on this page are approximate guidelines and are subject to change.

 

USA SOFTBALL AGE GUIDELINES:

 

A player’s age as of September 1 determines the age in which the player is eligible to play the following year.

  1. 8-Under Age Classification...A player whose 9th birthday is prior to September 1, 2024, is INELIGIBLE.
  2. 10-Under Age Classification...A player whose 11th birthday is prior to September 1, 2024, is INELIGIBLE.
  3. 12-Under Age Classification...A player whose 13th birthday is prior to September 1, 2024, is INELIGIBLE.
  4. 14-Under Age Classification...A player whose 15th birthday is prior to September 1, 2024, is INELIGIBLE.
  5. 16-Under Age Classification...A player whose 17th birthday is prior to September 1, 2024, is INELIGIBLE.
  6. 18-Under Age Classification...A player whose 19th birthday is prior to September 1, 2024, is INELIGIBLE.
  7. Players of younger age classification may play in older age classifications, but an older age classification player may not play in the younger age classification.
  8. A player who is 18 years of age or above on or before September 1 of the current year is eligible for the 18-Above age classification
