FAQs
Below is a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) with answers to help you develop your team and have some fun coaching with LGSL.
Q: When do I get my Team Roster?
A: Team Rosters are generally distributed at the Coaches Meeting 3-4 weeks before Opening Day! Check the News area displayed on home page of the website for the meeting date.
Q: When do I get my equipment bag and what is included?
A: Equipment is distributed at the softball field approximately 3-4 weeks before Opening Day. After the last game of the season, all equipment is returned to the Equipment Managers at a scheduled drop off date/time. This is necessary to inventory and replace what is in ill repair. This is a BIG job so your prompt return of your equipment bag is appreciated.
Each age division has different equipment needs. Our Equipment Managers pack a Team Bag for all teams including helmets with face guards, bats, some practice balls and game balls. Bags for 8U-18U teams also include, and catcher’s gear.
If you need more equipment or need to swap out anything once practices begin, please email equipment@tauntongirlssoftball.org and arrangements will be made to get you the equipment you need.
Q: What should I tell my team they need to purchase individually?
A: All players will need a glove and athletic shoes. We recommend cleats for traction in the dirt but they are not required. As the girls age up, they usually want to have their own helmet. If you plan to purchase a helmet, please be sure you buy an official softball-baseball helmet with a face mask already attached or one that a face mask can be purchased separately and attached. These helmets are usually found at a sports store like Fielder's Choice, Play It Again Sports or Dick’s Sporting Goods.
If your daughter is ready to play All-Star or Travel, she is probably ready for a bat of her own that is fitted to her personally. If your parents purchase personal items, please ask that they mark them clearly with their name.
Q: When are my pre-season practices and games held and when do I get my schedule?
A: Practice requests are taken in order of your team draft order at the end of the Pre-season Coaches Meeting. Our scheduler will then schedule practice days and fields.
Hint: You can send an assistant coach as a place-holder for your team if you know you may be late or miss the meeting.
Q: How do I reserve a field for practices during the season?
A: One practice time per team is available each week during the season. Practice times are signed up for weekly beginning on Monday using the sign up sheet located at the rolltop door to the left front of the concession stand.
